I guess it is possible that the rear is M16 LH thread in the rear and M20 RH thread in the front?
Don't tow cars much but I never really paid attention.
I've been mulling this around myself. I have a 20mm x 2.0 that fits the REAR. The front looks to be a 16mm and I'm still shopping. I found the 20mm at McMaster-Carr supply house. I didn't know until this revived thread came up that the front and rear were different. Thanks, TM
If some one needs a replacement tow hook for an 2003 XK8, (with the M20 x 2.5 RH thread arrangement), one for a 2007 Hyundai Accent works perfectly for the front and rear. Best of all it was only $3.25 at the local salvage yard.

The original has a shoulder where the threads end, right ?
I went on Ebay and unfortunately bought the wrong one for my 2002 XK8. A bit more research revealed that this one for a For Mazda 2 5 6 CX5 RX8, fit perfectly!
Good luck! Does anyone need the other one (gold) for what I paid for it?
Finally! I bought the tow hook shown about (thanks MJ) and it wouldn't go. I waited for a tap I found on line and chased the threads, didn't want to force the tow hook in place.
I can state that beyond a shadow of a doubt my 2003 XK8 possesses not one but 2, 20mm x 2.5 threaded tow hook receivers. The short hook will fit the back but a longer shank is required to reach the front, hence the purchase of the black and gold hook shown about. Those are my specs and I'm sticking to them. TM
