Default Towing with an XK8

And I thought it wasn't possible to tow with an XK.

German registered motorhome, seen in the car park here in southern Spain.

Looks like a good time, XK8 vert, motorcycle and a motor home, touring Europe. Doesn't get much better than that!

Haha, .... WHY?! I used to tow a three rail motorcycle trailer carrying a really heavy BMW R100RS with, ..... get this, ..... a 1500cc Fiat X-1/9!

And you think our 300 and 400 HP carriages can't do what my little gumba-car could.

Of course, we will all go to Hell for it. (I hear St. Pete is an real fan of our coupes - lol)

Ciao & Enjoy!

I tow with my x type and xjr but my xk is simply a bit too low to put a hitch on.

I can't find the thread in the search feature but I recall from a few years back a forum member towed a fairly large boat with his XK for quite a long distance with no problem.

You misunderstood. They were joking around about using the XK to tow something, not being towed on a trailer.

Glad you all enjoyed the photo. That must be some sort of custom made tow hitch on the last photo - certainly wouldn't be possible to homologate something like that here in Spain, they have very strict rules on towbars and trailers.

I looked into this years ago to see if I could tow my 16ft speed boat, but Jaguar said it couldn't be done.

Curtiss makes a hitch that fits the early XK8/XKR and can be made to fit later ones too. Getting it homologated to pull something this size, would probably be impossible.

Clearly, that is because he has a dual axle trailer so that the trailer itself can bear almost all of the weight, but still, there is usually close to or more than a hundred pounds of tongue weight that, bearing down on the extended hitch on the car, usually pulls the rear end down. This car shows almost no effect whatsoever.

I remember that photo from the old thread, OP said he doesn't actualy tow that boat with his XK. was heading to a show and had a friend with a truck tow the boat, he just hooks it up for show and grins at the events.

About 20 yrs ago I used to tow a 20ft sports boat with my XJS V12 - biggest problem was remembering it was there given the torque on the V12.
