just a simple and dumb question about the meaning/use of XK8 Track off switch/button. does it harm the engine/gearbox if you are running full day with Track off switch is on?

No, there is no harm in running with the traction control off. As far as I know, it simply limits power in an attempt to keep traction.

The traction control does two things, it enlists the ABS to detect a spinning rear wheel and applies the brake to that wheel to transfer torque to the other rear wheel through the open differential, it also controls the throttle to control the spinning. If the car has the ASC system, it does even more as it uses sensors to detect horizontal acceleration and applies the brakes on individual wheels to control the car's attitude.
