Default tranny filter change

While getting my oil changed at my favorite shop, got to talking with the service manager. One of the things we talked about was the "Lifetime" fluids in the tranny and differential. He gave me a price of around $400 to $450 for changing the filter pan and 10 to 11 qts of fluid plus a drain and fill on the differential. I've seen discussions about doing this at 100,000 miles but my XK8 is 18 years old which seems like a long time for fluids to me. I currently have around 65,000 mile on it.

Thoughts???

I will just say that I am in the process of gathering parts to do the trans filter/fluid change on our '06 with 65k miles. This will be the third filter/fluid as the dealer did it once due to a leaking gasket.
I am doing the trans filter/fluid due to the "chrip" that the trans makes when up shifting at times.
As far as the differential fluid, yeah I would change it out....18 years is a "lifetime" in my opinion for a fluid. As far as price....???...seems okay. Hopefully he know how to change the trans fluid as there is a procedure; it is not just a drain and fill. Be sure to ask about that.

This place understands Jag's. I was parked between a Bentley and a Ferrari in their hi bay. Servicing exotics is their specialty.

I would suggest that the valve body issue with the earlier cars is much more concern than simply changing the fluid.

Lots of information and discussion:

Oh, and about 7 quarts is all you are going to be able to drain. The rest stays in the torque converter.

Thanks! I'll ask him about that. And according to this post, looks like the early models might have a torque converter drain plug.

Only the XKR. And definitely the main pressure valve change.

ZF states in the 5HP24 service/repair manual that the service life of the fluid is 10 Years.
