I placed an order weeks ago and have heard nothing.

Are these folks still in business?

It's weird. I never got a reply, but got a refund today,,, after like 3 weeks...

I would kike to make one, it can't be too hard.

Does anyone know the thread size on the plug that goes into the ZF trans fill hole? I would like to give it some thought and a shot... I've looked at some of the photos of the thing, there has to be a way.

For anyone who has tried it, does it work and would you be willing to think about reverse engineering it with a guy?

Which trans? From the ZF documentation, 5HP is Screw Plug M18x1.5 (part # 0636 308 025). 6HP appears to be the same.

From what I can see, the actual creation of the dipstick tube is pretty easy, but it's the creation/calibration of the actual dipstick that's the problem.

I agree. Well, kind of. I guess it depends on if there is even something that ever could be considered 100% accurate fluid wise for the DIY situation, and I don't think there is.

I've thinking about it since I made my last post... I think all one really has to do is run the pipe towards the front of the car level with the fill hole to begin, with (maybe) just the slightest up pitch in the direction of the engine bay - if at all? Start the up curve where it needs to be in order to make it fit and find a good home in the engine bay. From there it kinda would be finding that sweet spot with the length of the cable. The cable will be adjustable until its finally "set".

Having done the NO FUN job of filling the thing. Getting it up to the right temp (basically body temp) and waiting for fluid to dribble at a temp way LOWER than operating temp - it seems like with the slight pitch in the tube, the gauge at the end of the cable would just need to get a reading of 3/4 of an inch (20mm I read somewhere) from the lowest point before the upcurve. If that was possible I REALLY believe that one would be in a right and absolutely "adequate" ball park. If one made one up, installed it, got in the right "ball park" one could get a "feel" for it and slowly add fluid (knowing where things are positioned and how) to gain a real sense of where the level of the fluid is in relation to the tube, fill hole, pan and trans... I think it is possible to do this with out tooooo much pain. Maybe a little bit of trial and error, safe error, that is.

From MIKE (what up man,,,, long long time!) the 5HP is Screw Plug M18x1.5 (part # 0636 308 025)... From that a M18x1.5 compression fitting is easy and cheap. Measuring and welding the pipe with an elbow aint bad... I think this might be doable.

Since Tom is no longer in business, I wish he would just make public the specks? hint hint,,, out there Tom?

Im going to keep digging and make a few calls.

I did this: Putting Lexie back on the road... - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum
I drilled the pan so I could get an accurate reading of level with the drain plug. I still need to wrap the tube with aluminum heat shield once I get her on the road...
