It's my 1999 XK8

Well, it's more than a fault, it's limping badly!

The car always ran great, smooth shifting always. Till last week.

Out for a drive, make a stop and the engine stalled. Restarted, CEL comes on and "transmission fault" displayed. gave it some gas and it started to slowly move then cruised at 55 mph all the way home.

Restarted it the next day and put it in gear and heard a whining noise. Shut it down and here we sit.

The codes are P1733 and P1722.

So is this the usual "A drum" issue or worse?

If anyone could recommend a transmission repair place near Denton, Tx, please post the info. I emailed Motorcarman, but have not heard from him, although our phone service was bad all week.

The whining could be a torque converter, and the p1722 indicates that also. Whatever, you are looking at an expensive repair as the trans must come out for diagnosis.

I'm sorry to say that your transmission is toast. If you had other codes, indicating the torque converter clutch performance stuck off, I would say torque converter. But that 1722 is always a no brainer. Sorry for your loss.

 

If you can find an MZF distributor around you, they will be more than happy to assist. MZF Beyer made the transmission. They should have it in stock.
