Transmission issue
Hi, I have a '98 XK8 and was wondering about an issue that just started happening. I first noticed a slight, repeated, short "hesitation" at highway cruising speeds. My first thought was the transmission was missing a beat. Then the other night, when going up a rather steep hill, there was a significant noise along with what seemed to be a substantial "slipping" of gears. Once I made it to the top of the hill and no longer under engine load, it was mostly back to normal. Checked the ECU for fault codes...none listed. Any idea what might be happening, and could I be looking at a complete transmission failure?
You might be low on fluid. There is information on the forum explaining how to check, either in the DIY Sticky or try the search key. It's a nuisance to check, so you may want to take it to jag specialist, and have them check for transmission codes at the same time.
Oh, well that would be great if that's all it is! I took it out around the block this morning, and all seemed well. It seems to be intermittent whatever it is. Thank you for the advice...much appreciated.
You should have this looked at as RJ said, it might be saved now but continued driving may do damage beyond repair. I'm not trying to scare you into service but obviously there is a issue, especially under load, with things like this they only get worse, not better.
Yes, I'm with you on that. As much as I'd like to believe it can self-heal...well, I know otherwise. Thanks for the advice.
Man, just 1 week into the driving season too :-/
