Default 1996 Transmission Mount

OK, I was on a kick to change all of my mounts with new ones and upgrade some of the mounts on my 1996 Celebration Edition XJS 4.0L Convertible. I even ordered a transmission mount that looks like an orange-ish colored foam mushroom that looks like this....

HOWEVER, When the car was on the lift, I don't see an old one like that, nor do we see where it would mount. Am I missing something or did they update the design and did not update the catalogs. Mine is one of the last 1996 models made. Mine looks like the pics below and I don't have that center bolt and the hole looks way too small to put in that orange foam bushing.

l can't see your pics but are you sure you ordered the part for your 4 litre and not the V12 part. Those rear mounts are totally different.

They took forever to load-in on the site but are showing now. I ordered this one;

BUSH - Terrys Jaguar Parts - MMC7553AA

Description is;
"XJS 6 Cyl. 1992-1996 from Vin (179737) to Vin (226645). Fits inside Springs."

Which is the same one Jaguar Classic Parts shows on their website.

Strangely mine looks more like what Jaguar Classic shows as being an XJ6 mount, for an older 3.6L XJS, or for a 4.0L with a Manual tranny;

http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk...-mounting-rear

But I know for a fact my transmission and the mount are original and it's certainly a 1996 with an automatic.

Does this style of mount even go bad?

Really doesn't appear to be anything in it that can really "go bad".

That part number given by terrys is for 6 litre V12 model. That is what it looks like too so ll would say they have it listed incorrectly.

As mentioned,

That bush is not for an AJ16 XJS with ZF Auto Trans. It's for a 6 litre XJS with GM Auto Trans,

Have a look here for the correct bushes and springs part numbers that you need:

http://www.jaguarclassicparts.com/uk...itre-automatic

They certainly do wear over time and, in extremis, can cause the engine to lift at the front and the fan to knock the top of the fan shroud, a sure giveaway that the gearbox mount has gone.

Good luck

Paul
