Hello Again;
Just a quick question. If I drive my 98 XK8 and use "Sport" function, The tranny shifts at a higher rpm as dsigned perfectly. However, If not in "S" mode, it seems that at around 30 or 35, it shifts then downshift...shifts and then down shifts again, several times till I get a little more speed. Please tell me the tranny isn't goin' south... hopefully something fixable?

How many miles on the car and when has the trans been serviced and do you have any OBD codes?

 

You are probably just on the ragged edge of the TCM program wanting to upshift and needing to downshift. Give it a little more gas.

 

Test point is right - in some cases the transmission withh "hunt" for the right gear and bounce back and forth. Move your speed up or down a notch and it will stop.

I knew a guy that burnt up a transmission towing with an SUV type truck because it went 300 miles hunting between 4th and 5th...

 

My 99 xk8 has 110,000mi on it and I live in town and drive everyday in town 25 – 35mph and on the toll road at 65mph and I have not noticed a shifting problem yet. However, I did have the trans serviced around 95,000 mi and I felt it was the right thing to do. I firmly believe that good preventative maintenance is imperative with these cars. The choice is yours! Pay now or pay for it latter.
