Default Transmission Rotary Sensor

Hello All;

I have been having issues with what the dealer said is the rotary sensor with my 1997 XK8. Without forewarning, the car goes into the mode in where in pulling out from a light, there is no power. It can be running OK, then the fault can happen.

The rotary sensor is attached to the side of the transmission and basically tells the transmission which gear it should be in at any given time.

It shows up in the dash as the "Check Engine" light as well as "Transmission Fault".

Does anyone have any insights into issue? I would appreciate any advice.

A dealer spent considerable effort, and my $$, last fall trying to find the problem. They appeared to have been successful. Stored the car over the winter and sure enough, first local road trip, there it was again.

Thanks in advance.

If you are looking for a replacement you might want to log on to New and Used OEM and Aftermarket Jaguar Parts Online Catalog and email a parts inquiry for Gearbox rotary switch LJA6201AD. Dan will help you out.
You can review this previous post for info to properly test the rotary switch.
