Default Trunk Button

I have a 2003 xk8, and want to polish the plastic on the trunk button, the one one the trunk, as it is completely fogged. For the life of me, I can not figure out how to remove it. Anybody have a suggestion, and where could I get a new one if I cant polish it. Thanks in advance. By the way, you guys (all of you) have saved my bacon on this car many times over. Just a BIG thanks to you all.

Maybe a name of the product and who sells it?

I have a foggy dash on mine and am wondering if that would clear it too?

somewhere in this forum (I believe), there is a post about a place to buy a replacement trunk release button, which I believe was bright green and possibly illuminated.

I know that I saw that post before I bought my XK8, while doing research. I haven't been able to find it again since then. If you happen to come across it, please share the link

I think I know what you are saying in terms of the foggy looking trunk button. I have a button like this on my 2005XKR and I think the main problems is that it is not a really hard plastic that would be polish-able. It is a bit softer and I tried cleaning mine up but it was pretty quickly dull again.

Yeh, thanks guys, I figured out how to get it off, and was able to polish with jewelers rouge and then plastic polish, but you are right, it is more of a rubber compound, so don't know how well it will work. I thought about illuminating it, but couldn't figure out an easy way. I would LOVE to find one already illuminated as well, so if anyone seen it, please post, again, many many thanks.

Debbie, the 'foggy' dash is a factory defect found on '01 MY cars. Jaguar replaced them for a time but that expired years ago. Story is that the long term wood finisher retired and the replacement did not allow enough dry time for the wood stain before the finish coats. It will not polish out. The only solution is replacemant.

I just checked my trunk button and it looks very clean and the Jaguar face is very visible (looks angry lol). The background is grey, which blends with the silver body color nicely, and the Jag is outlined in sliver. Looks like a keeper for now.

Is there any way to deactivate the button if I'm leaving the car in unfamiliar surroundings or there are extreme valuables (like golf clubs) in the trunk?
