Default Trunk Lid Latch HOLY SMOKES!

OK, on my 2001 XKR convertible (new to me) I was getting a little uneasy about a possible dead battery issue when the battery is in the trunk. I had a related issue years ago with my 1962 Lincoln Continental convertible with the deck hydraulics located in the trunk. A pump failure meant you had to find a midget to crawl into the trunk from the passenger compartment. So the dead XKR battery issue is a big deal to me. THEN I pressed that little Jag emblem in the chrome strip on the trunk lid and THE TRUNK OPENED!!! So my question is, HOW do you keep your golf clubs from going south on you? If the answer is something that I have missed in the owners manual, just shake your head and wonder where I learned to read.

Well, I have an X350 saloon so it may be different, but it also has a little button with the Jaguar on it to press for trunklid open. On my car there is also a socket for the key underneath the chrome strip. You have to look upwards on the lower horizontal edge of this strip, (or use wife's compact mirror !). It is not obvious and I had previously missed it in the Owners Manual, but on holiday, the lid did not come up far enough because I was leaning on it, so I had a lid that would not shut or open !! Perusal of the manual showed the secret.

Lock the car.

Two positive battery connections in the engine compartment.

If you do not intend to lock the car, press the valet button on the lower left side of the dash panel. This will de-activate the boot release button. You can re-activate it by pressing the unlock button on your remote or using your key(not the valet key) to unlock the boot.

Lock the car! If you have a dead battery use the key at the trunk to open it, it’s mechanical!

Many times I do not lock my car. I leave nothing in it so I'd rather some thief look through it by opening a door rather than slicing open the top to find nothing. This is when I press the valet button to keep the boot secured.
