Default Trunk light

Okay, I feel dumb... Anyone know where the switch for the trunk lights lives? My lights come on randomly after the trunk is opened, sometimes not at all. What I thought was the switch, just to the right of the latch doesn't seem to move and I can't find anything else, help!

Hi.

The light switch is within the latch.

My trunk light has never worked properly. I'd say the operation is random except that at least sometimes you'd think it would come on at the right time and stay on. But nope.

It may be over engineered to only come on when it is dark out and not in the daytime, taking a reading from the headlight sensor. I'm not sure.

I gave up trying to figure it out.

It's a microswitch built into the latch assembly. You could replace just the switch if you're handy.

I have the same issue; Micro switch is fine, but all the mechanics seem sticky, lubes dried out and dirty; Sometmes switches on after a couple of minutes; I applied lots of WD40, thought I had it cured and it came back within a fourtnight.

Gave up for the time being; Live's too short

Oops, almost forgot- a common problem is the wiring harness where it goes up one of the hinge arms. They usually break there, causing intermittent lights or intermittent latch operation.
Common on BMWs, too.

Here's a thread I started a while ago on this subject:

Sam

PS After a year it's still working perfectly.
