Question Trunk Lights??

I need your help guys. When I open my trunk my lights inside the trunk used to come on. Then it came to a point where sometimes I opened the trunk the light was off and all of a sudden just turned on by itself when the trunk was fully open. Now it's at a point where it just doesn't come on anymore.

Is there a fuse for the trunk lights? I searched through the book but couldn't find anything. What can it be from? What can I check? Anyone had a problem like this? Sometimes those trunk lights do come in handy.

Thanx

If the glove box light and vanity lamps in visors work, the trunk lights should also (same source)
Probably a bad switch in the trunk lid latch. The trunk lamps are fed a constant 12v. The switch puts ground on one side of the lamps.

Yes, all the other lights work except for the trunk lights. Which one is the switch? Is there a way I can test it to know it's from the switch?

yup, sounds like the micro switch in the boot, common problem on the early xk8s. We've got several threads dedicated to its diagnosis, removal and new switch...if they figured out the correct replacement. I haven't visited those threads in awhile. I'd search boot, trunk, lights, micro switch, etc in the xk8 area. Bound to hit the very best. g'luck!

I just changed mine. Toughest part was getting the tree clips out of the plastic cover at the rear of the trunk. A couple of the them broke in the process, 2 of the ones that have screws going through them. They simply refused and I forced, so they came out in pieces. I'll have to get replacements at some time. Does anyone know where to buy parts like that except the dealer?

I got the switch from the local dealer for about $42. Now the lights work and so does the "trunk open" warning on the dashboard.
