That's in the tread and not the sidewall. I would get it plugged. Not a DIY job but the major UK tyre depots offer the service.
If you haven't used this system before, the plug/patch is fitted from the inside. The round gray patch in the pic sticks to the casing as the thin rubber plug is pulled though and the excess is trimmed from the outside.
I've had this type of repair done three times and in each case the tyre subsequently wore out with no further issues.
