U.K flip key conversion.

U.K flip key conversion.
Hello again folks, I was just wondering if there was a particular type of flip key which I should/could choose to convert my LJA2610BA 433.92MHz sender unit?
I know it can easily be done in the U.S but I cannot find a compatible flip unit for a U.K car to make the conversion.
Is it possible to make one in the U.K?
Kind regards,
ArtyH

I used one from an X type and it works perfectly. I bought it on Ebay like this one: Jaguar X-Type Key Fob Remote | eBay
They appear often, so no need to buy the first one which comes along. There is a very helpful thread with details of how to adapt the flip key for an XK.

Hi, I, ve seen a few for the x type but they never state the frequency or the mhz, are all the x type flip fobs the same LJA2619BA 433.9 2MHz, which is what I need for my car? Or am I missing something here? Have you the same frequency etc as mine? Many thanks for taking the time to help. Just had a thought, did you have to take your car and fob to get them paired together at a dealer? I was trying to do the job without reprogramming, just the physical change like the guys do in the U.S.
Cheers,
ArtyH

Arty, I guess you read the "How To" thread? https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...light=flip+fob
You should be able to programme the fob yourself and will be using the original transponder so no need for key programming.
I believe any UK frequency S/X Type fob will work.
If you get a fob you can try pairing it with the car before doing the butcher work on your existing key to be sure.

Hi Norri, and thanks for taking the time to comment. As I understand it the fobs have to be the same numbers ie LJA2610BA with a frequency of 433.92MHz for my car. I recently bought a spare fob on that understanding to complement the spare keys. I did read the thread and thought that the U.S frequencies were compatible with the U.S flip key for some reason, but not the U.K ones.
Are you saying that ANY U.K X-type flip key together with my transponder will program to my car? I thought all the numbers etc had to match the VCATS plate.
I will wait for confirmation, before jumping in, as there are several which I have my eye on, but I need to be sure it will work with all the buttons.
Many thanks for the info, look forward to any response.
Kind regards,
ArtyH

Hi Arty
I'm afraid I just bought an X type flip key on Ebay on the basis that it was cheap and in good condition. However, the first thing I did was to programme it to my car following the instructions already referred to by others. Having established that it worked, I then adapted the key. The most important part is safely removing the transponder from your existing key.
Good luck, it is well worthwhile.

HI renaultvation and thanks for the reply. You did yours the same way I would tackle the job, my only reservation is the frequencies for the remote, at this point I do not know if you have been lucky or its just a case of a straight change over to reprogram. I remember having problems getting the original fob to pair with the car initially, and after fitting new batteries the problem still existed. Then I went to an expert for programming and he changed the batteries ( yes the new ones ) and low and behold it worked. I then looked up about pairing other fobs ( and saw the flip fob articles ) but was under the impression that the fob had to be the same code as the VCATS one.
My point is I don't want to spend £40/50 on a flip fob only to find it does not work, I know it did for you, but I cannot help think the gods looked favourably towards you ;-) . I am looking at a few on ebay and if one comes up at a decent price I will take the plunge.
Could I ask you what year your XK8 is please and what the original fob details are compared to the new flip fob unit?
Many thanks again,
ArtyH

Arty, I asked the same question in another thread but never got an answer, but from what I've read the original fobs need to be matched as you describe US or UK but those that have done the "flip" conversion don't appear to have had any issues with buying the ebay fobs, that's what I did.
I'd dive in if I were you.
