Default Ultra Gauge??

Have any of you installed an Ultra Gauge on your pre 2000 XK8? If so, what worked, what didn't, i.e., how many parameters did it pick off? Would you buy again?

( UltraGauge OBDII Scan tool & Information Center )

Thanks,

Scott

I use it in all three of my cars, but the early Jags are not not very communicative. I use it mainly for the water temp, MAF, TPI and fuel trims. Your 2000 will be okay.

I have one in my '97. Only use it to monitor a few things coolant temp, battery voltage,MAF.
It has to be forced to use ISO 9141.

Did it pick out or recognize the 9141 at restart or do you have to tell it every time you start the car? I'm assuming my 98 will do the same thing.

Mainly it will be used to monitor the water temp. Kinda hard to understand why Jag used a gauge that doesn't tell you what the actual temp is...

Wasn't aware that there five different versions of OBD II. I think my Rover LR3 (Ford design) uses the CAN protocol so I hope it doesn't confuse this thing if I buy it.

When you set the gauge up there is short list of protocols you select on the display. Once you have selected a protocol it will start with it every time.

I have used mine to read codes on other cars, such as Ford, and it will select the proper protocol. Then when I put it back in a Jag I have to force ISO 9141 again. A very minor inconvenience.

Really like this little tool, have it always connected, and I check for instance stft/ltfts temp etc. It can read the standard odbii codes, and reset.

For serious trouble shooting I use the IDS, but to have something at hand to directly read/check without the need of a phone/pc or is very useful.

Thanks for all your feedback, I'll go ahead and order one. I could go down to AutoZone and pick up a Scan-gauge but this is half the price and appears to do pretty much the same thing. And, now I know that it will function in our early model XK8's
Appreciate your help!

Scott
