I would gradually apply more graphite powder while carefully attempting to move the key flap around with a tiny screwdriver or bent paper clip....

How much is the flap supposed to be closed?

I experimented a while and don't think it will close more than a bit more than halfway.

the flap only closes about halfway. there is no partial action that will give an error. it either closes or does not. there is only one circuit for this flap. when you remove the key, there is a distinct click as the flap closes. the proof is that the key in ignition warning with the driver's door open, engine off is not present. while the car is running switch the steering wheel adjustment to "off" to ensure that a failing wheel parking cycle does not contribute.

unrelated to the above, consider disconnecting any power feed to the cellular telephone system. this might be an issue for everyone in general. the system must always be on to allow charging and use of the cellular phone when the car is off. this means that there must be a transformer that is constantly connected or on standby power. these always have heat losses even when the phone is not present.

I removed my cell phone unit in the glove box and the pack under the box liner. Is there any thing else I need to disable and where is it? Thanks
