Default Unusual electric window/door opening issue

Hi,

I have searched the forum but noone seems to have the exact same issue my new XK8 is having.

When you open/pull the door handle on the drivers side, the window drops a bit to allow the door to open. I understand this is a feature of this kind of pillar-less door although its not one I am familiar with.

The issue is, it doesnt go back up on its own. If you pull the handle more than once, it goes down too much, leaving a gap, meaning you have to go back into the car, and try it again to shut the window. It also leaves the obvious issue that the window isn't going back into the rubber seal around the window.

Does anyone have any experience of this, and if so, what is the best thing to do to fix it?

Many thanks for reading

Marc

Welcome to the forum Marc,

This is a symptom of low voltage from the battery.

Did you try setting the up/down limits with the window control switch?

All the way down and hold the switch for an additional 4-5 seconds until you hear a soft click. All the way up and hold for the click. Repeat for the passenger side.

When you get a minute, please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some info about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

Hi Graham,

Already posted on that bit of the forum, perhaps I need to add more information to it?

Passenger side seems totally fine, but I can definitely give that a go later on today. Thanks for the really quick reply, I was expecting someone to say its something horribly expensive!

Marc,

NO - I should have checked on your previous posts more carefully!

You'll be particularly unlucky if it's more than the limit switches needing a reset but this does raise concerns over battery condition. About 5-6 years seems to be the average battery life on an XK8/XKR.

Unlucky is my middle name Graham!

Being at work now, it will be later on that I get chance to take a look. If it is something as straight forwards as a battery, assuming its easy to get to [not checked as I only got it on Saturday] then I can live with that.

I was expecting someone to say its something horrible to do with the door electronics going wrong, that it needed to go to Jaguar as it was a specific part and only they could fix it....

So good news

That reset trick worked first time and my window/door works just fine.

Thanks Graham, I feel so much happier now!

Marc,

That's the cheapest fix you'll ever get on a Jaguar!

Windows dropping like that is often a sign of the battery beginning to fail. If it happens again you should get it tested.
