Default Upgrading tail lights and trunk trim

Is it possible to upgrade an older xk8's rear to the more modern look of the 03' and newer cars? Specifically the jewel tail lights and the chrome bit with the button for opening the trunk? Can the button be made functional?

I was looking at a site posted in a body kit thread and they seem to sell a tail light conversion, so I guess that's possible.

It is possible, but it requires cutting out some metal as the rear of the new lights isn't compatible with the old shell. Several members have done the job themselves.

Cutting out metal? That sounds like something I don't have the tools for. What about the trim piece with the boot button?

Well, that's interesting. Doesn't seem too complicated, although all the wire work makes me a little nervous.
