Upper wishbone bushes replacement.
Relacing the top wishbone bushes on my 2000 XKR has proved to be a bit of a pain in the neck. Long story short, fulcrum bolt jammed completely in sub frame. I had to hack out the old bushes and then I managed to get a grinder between wishbone and subframe and cut it through.
With one half free, I then had to apply a lot of heat to the remaining bolt and over a period of an hour or so loosen the bolt. At one point I though it would never come out and was beginning to think of having to replace the subframe, thats how bad it was.
The salt here in the UK had seized the bolt completely. Needless to say the new fulcrum bolts will be replaced with a liberal amount of copper grease.
I wonder if anyone has replaced the original Jaguar bushes with Poly replacements. I have the new Poly bushes and have retained the original large steel washers, but am not sure which way they should fit. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Wow, the fulcrum shaft was really in poor condition. Good that you were able to free it up. I had the Powerflex poly bushings installed on my 2005 XKR coupe and have been very pleased with the handling/ride quality. As I recall the mechanic used the same shims and everything went back together as originally assembled. The poly bushings pressed nicely into the wishbone arms.

I just did exactly the same last weekend, the only difference was the bolt head shearing off.
It was the heat that solved it, using an infrared thermometer I found the bolt moved fairly easily if the aly casting was heated to 150 degrees celcius, anything below 120 degrees it was locked solid. Hopefully a useful tip if you are doing the other side.

I removed a set of these that were badly corroded and stuck by applying Aerokroil and letting it sit overnight, the bolts came out with finger pressure. I have NEVER had to force anything using this penetrant. I restore classic bikes and could not do without it. No connection with the company.
