Well, I cooled down and followed the earlier advice about loading a VM onto this computer (a Vista) machine. Finally got the disk to work! Not really easy to use, but still better than nothing. Haven't tried printing instructions yet though...
So I begrudingly say that the CDROM works.

I think that really depends on the disk, my disk from ebay ran on Vista and is still running on Win7 Pro 32bit.
