Default Valet button - Kept banging inadvertantely

Hey this one is probably obvious but I was happily surprised how well it works: The valet button can be swapped with the little plastic vent right next to it. It is a drop in, no tools, replacement.

So if you're like me and keep bumping the switch as you get in / out this is a great fix. No tools needed.

FYI - The vent is backed by 1) a foam template and 2) a plastic template. These are both necessary to keep the plastic vent from jiggling around. I'm telling you just so you don't toss them out as they look redundant.

While we are on the Valet button, last time I was in there I, like many of us, had the valet switch come appart in place. As posted many times before it is a simple press together to fix, but I did learn something (probably should have been obvious) - The bulb is covered in a flexible blue plastic covering. DO Not remove it. Mine was falling off so I took the plastic cover off and saved it on the side. Bad move - without the blue plastic the button shines a horrible beacon of white light. Luckily I saved mine so all's good now.

I never hit the valet button. It's the gas cap and trunk/boot buttons for my knee.

Wish they were such an easy fix.

Guess its all in the size of our knee... Mine too hits the trunk/ gas tank door. I cringed yesterday when I came out of the Senior Living Facility my relations live in and spotted the trunk lid ajar. My car was parked with the alarm set right next to the Senior Apartments. Embarrassing... I guess I'll know if I find a bed pan on the hood of my XK. Rich

I'm looking for some form of half moon plastic cap I can mount on the bottom side of the button housing. This would provide room to reach the buttons but a deflector to keep from inadvertent hitting them. When I get it done I'll post a pic.

Doesn't count if you're double-jointed.

While we're at it ... my pet peeve, the key fob hitting your right knee. Anybody got a fix other than separating the key from the fob?

Rperformance, I know what you mean. Just don't knock the ignition to off. I did that at 70mph. Scared the hell out of me, unlike older cars you can't just turn the key on- you have to cycle ot all the way off then back (as the 18. Wheeler approaches ).
