Valley hoses install/ supercharger rebuild optiins
Hi all;
Got some questions here for the forum and a riddle see if somebody can identify a mystery object found upon valley hose removal...
have a 2000 xkr with 90k miles. Recently I’ve developed a slow Coolant leak and low and behold was traced to the engine valley area. Bought all the hoses from British parts, valley radiator octopus's and so and took the supercharger out. Question here is how much should I tighten up the jubilee clamps that came with The Valley hoses - are those torqued or how do I make sure it’s not too tight? Don’t want to have leaks there after soo much fun removing the supercharger ... Which brings me to another question,
soo I have the supercharger out and was thinking on rebuild options. Can I clean it with throttle intake cleaning fluid? How difficult it is to change the nose and rear bearings? Any suggestions on how to tell they’re bad? If I decide not to change the snout bearing and decide to repack the rear and assemble - what kind of grease should I use to repack? the oil was changed about two years ago and wasn’t that bad but didnt changed the coupler ( I have one at hand) . If it’s not difficult I’ll buy a press and do it myself just need advise to judge if just clean repack or rebuild. The pulley is firm and does not feel loose when turning nor it wobbles it’s has a nice weighted feeling when I spin it by hand. Sometimes I did hear a marble rattling kind of sound when shutting down the engine .
here the riddle:
whe removing the first valley hose that goes to the water pump outlet nipple connection I’ve found a thin magnetic pin or roller about an inch long in there . Anybody knows what this is? I was wondering if it’s some sort of factory left behind to catch metal particles but I’m not that sure. The car had timing chains , water pump and thermostat replaced around 60k and I was wondering if that was a leftover from my mechanic or if it’s another loose gremlin in the coolant system. See attached picture- any advise or help appreciated
This is what I’ve found inside the metal nipple that comes out of the water pump to one of The Valley hoses that goes into the rear of the engine. It’s magnetic and looks like a roller pin?
Hi,
If you still have the 'cobra' spring clips on the old hoses, I'd be tempted to re-use them (or obtain new of the same type) rather than worm-drives since they allow some 'give' on expansion. I have re-used them successfully twice, although others may have a different view.
