Thanks to all on this forum and the wisdom from all so generously shared, I've decided to earn my man badge and put in new secondary tensioners on my recently aquired 98 XK8 converable, 69K miles.
I will be ordering all the requisite parts and gaskets shortly, however,as I realize this is not a small block chevy, I am not clear whether any use of RTV will be needed on helping to seal the valve cover gaskets.
Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I didn't use any RTV when I did the job. However, a small dab of RTV is recommended where the Engine Front Cover meets the Engine Block.

I have no leaks (without the RTV).

 

I'll second that.

 

As they said, just the dabs at the mating surfaces, also important is sealing surfaces clean and dry, correct torque values and correct sequence- see JTIS
