Default Weird Remote Key Issue

Strange issue with my "primary" remote key...

1. Press the "unlock" button with the car locked (primary key), the headlight rolls open as it should, however the car does not unlock. There is no "beep".

2. Press the "lock" button with the car unlocked (primary key), the headlight rolls closed as it should, however the car does not lock. There is no "beep" Strange issue with my remote key...

3. My "spare" remote key works fine. Door locks and unlocks with a "beep" as it should., the headlight opens and closes properly. There is a "beep".

so...

Since the "spare" key" works as it should and the "primary" key does communicate as evidenced by the lights responding even though the car does not respond by locking and unlocking the car, it appears that the problem is the "primary" key.

What could cause this? Almost dead battery in the key?

Does this make sense??

I don't understand what the "headlight roles" refers to and what this has to do with the Jaguar? Are you referring to the Mazda?

Whatever, there is nothing to lose in replacing the battery.

Richard, when you press the key to unlock the car (XK8), in addition to unlocking the car, the headlight "roles". Unlock your car and watch.

I agree about putting in a new battery.

I just don't understand the word "roles" in this context ..... but never mind, try the new battery first.

Is that a feature of HID headlamps?

I do not know if it is a feature of HID headlamps. If you unlock your car and do not see the headlights "do their thing", then... yes.

I'll try to take a picture of it later and post it.

My self-leveling headlights "level up" when I start the car. I don't think they do it when I unlock the car, but then again, I could be mistaken. I'm not sure what a "primary key" is. I have two key fobs and a black head key and a green head valet key. The fobs and the keys are two different things.
