What is the dial on the back of the rearview mirror? What does it do?

I assume you are referring to the small knob that adjusts the auto-on headlight setting.

ahh ok yep that would be it. Now the question is: from sitting in the drivers seat which way do I turn it to make the lights come on when it is lighter out???
