Very likely it is a replacement. The early US models had a capacitor leakage problem that could destroy the circuit board and the same problem may occur in the UK.

As always bang on the money. Re programmed to increase the fuel when cranking to aid cold starting . Engine temp measured at the water sender unit . If you have poor cold starting you can fool the computer with a 1000 ohm resistor in series with the sensor and a switch or relay to take it out . This makes computer think the engine is colder than it is. Available as a kit for other JLR vehicles.

As mentioned, you would need a switch or relay to short out the resistor.

The kits on ebay were for LR P38 diesels which had a cold start problem when the pump was worn. When the ignition was turned on a relay with a 20 sec timer was activated and at the end of the timer period the resistor was bypassed . Lots of timers on ebay for about $5 I have one to turn my SRS light off !!!!
