Ok this thread got me thinking perhaps I should clay bar the car.

I watched a Meguires video....looks simple enough.

My question: The kit comes with two clay bars. is that enough to do a whole car or do you need more?

Thanks

My experience is that one bar is enough just don't drop it. The second it hits the ground or gets any other type of contaminant on it you have to toss it in the trash.

I found that the kits did not give me enough of the spray lubricant you use before you clay the car. A detailer told me that a spray bottle filled with soapy water would work just as well but I never tried it so take it for what it's worth.

Not withstanding some posted concerns about using a clay bar, as far as I am concerned it should be used whenever a complete detail is undertaken, e.g., glaze and swirl remover and wax. Once most people see how quickly and effectively it works, they too are converts.

Lots of guys use diluted dish soap instead of spray detailer when clay barring. Besides providing the requisite lubrication, dish soap also removes any old wax. Afterwards, be certain to use a sponge of clear water rinse to remove any traces of dish soap.

I have a Mothers clay bar I have used for years. I spray the detailer on a small area and clay bar that and then move on when it moves smoothly over the surface. I knead the bar to keep it in the shape I like. It changes shape as you work with it. I only use it when some contaminant is on the paint, like overspray, bird dung, plant sap or similar.
