Default What's Your Gas Mileage?

I just want to know what are cars are getting on average. I'm at 21.3 right now. It's the best I've gotten to date.

XK8 2001 Reg Engine - 24 on the Interstate with reasonable driving and speed, 21 if I do 70/75 avg and a lot of in/out lane passing, 17 on short trips on minor roads. Probably average 20-21 on a complete tank Interstate and Local and puching it several times for passing. New NKG's just a couple of 100 miles ago at 96K, first change since being built. MPG increase with the NGK Iridiums about 3 MPG.

For my 2001 XK8 Coupe, the actual figures as opposed to the calculated consumption on the car display:

Total Miles travelled = 23958
Total Fuel used = 5399.98 litres (1187.83 gallons - UK)
Average Consumption = 20.17 mpg

More important to me was the fuel cost - £5995.00

I haven't had my 2005 XK8 4.2S long enough to make a comparison but a 650 mile overnight trip from the North of England to the Loire Valley in France next week should fix that.

Do you think there is much differance between the "actual" and the computer calculated figures? The computer figure on mine is 22.6mpg over about 1200 miles.Mostly country driving not much sitting in traffic.
There will be a differance between Uk/Europe and the US figures due to the Gallons being different.

I have driven about 800 miles in my new acquisition, 1997 xk8 . The highway mileage is consistently between 24 an 26.7 ; fill each time to first click only. City mileage is 18-19.6. Average is 22.8 . I am very pleased with the running of the car as well as oil consumption which in 800+ miles is barely measurable on the stick. The car has 81,354 miles on it; looks showroom new and always has used 5 w 30 Mobil 1 ; one owner car. No leaks.....other than the radio problem everything works as it should and is very enjoyable. This will not be my winter car.....hoping that the sleep will keep it in same condition. I have many other collector cars and store all in like manner.

19mpg miles/gallons method, the computer is close but usually optimistic. I drive a mix of 50% backroad, 40% city and 10% highway. Very happy with that fuel economy.

By the end of a tank the display on the dash usually shows about 24 mpg but the actual calculated mpg is about 23. About 50% of my driving is on a 2 lane country road with some gentle hills, and the other 50% is in small town traffic. I actually get better gas mileage on the interstate. If I set the cruise at 70 and turn off the AC I'll get about 29 in the display, and it's gone as high as 31 on a really flat road with a tailwind and the top up (A/C off, windows down).

Al,

80sRule reckons the car computed figure is slightly optimistic and I've got the exactly same impression on the last three Jaguars I've had with this function.

Hi GG Cold starts and short runs play havoc on the average mpg. On a good run you think you are doing well showing 26+ then a a few days of above and back down goes the average.Interesting your comments on the actual readings.

I'm usually getting about 14-16 around town w/ sport mode set. But on the highway I'm consistently getting 23-24. Last weekend I did a round-trip from Seattle to south Portland (Oregon City) in just over 5 hours, gauge said average speed was 63, but even with long stretches at 90 I was still getting instant mpg of 21. I ended the trip at an average of almost 24, not bad for all the fun I had.

I am interested in the relationship between the Average MPH and the average mileage.

My MPG seems to stay around 18.6 with an average MPH of 35.

What is your average MPH?

On my cross-country trip in July, I averaged 28 mpg. That 6th gear really helps.

On long trips - 28 highway at 70 to 75 mph. Most of my driving is town though and I get 21.8 if I drive normally (not babying it, not punching it all the time). Friends & family are amazed it is so good.

I'm on my 2nd tank of gas. First tank full I got 14 mpg. This is short city driving. I don't know if altitude has any effect, but I'm at 5500 ft.

I bought the car in Fort Meyers Florida filled it up and drove 184 miles across the state to Jupiter Florida and filled it back up. I put in 7.8 gallons that equates to 23.59 miles to the gallon,,,, Now it was my first drive being I just bought it and I had my foot in it most of the time.... On the south end of Lake Okeechobee on State Road 80 I brought it up to 130 for a few moments then back down to 75-90 or so most of the trip...

Drove it up to North Carolina the following week 761 miles last 100 miles were up and down speeds through the mountain (25-55 Posted and patrolled) and averaged @25.5 miles a gallon up and then back.... I averaged 90 -95 when I drove,,, My co-pilot was more moderate clicking in the cruise control at 76 on I-95...

3rd day it was 22 degrees icey and snowing (drove great in the cold air,,, I just couldn't take it, LOL) ,,, Hooked the hose up to the hot water gave the baby a steam bath dried her off and then drove her home to Sunny South Florida

Absolutely love the car and I am actively looking for another so I don't have to ask the Wife to drive it,,,LOL

Da Count
