Default Wheel Refinishing..

Is anyone familiar with the rim refinishing process? I have some curb rash on my rear passenger rim. The stock 'Aris' wheel has a very noticeable diamond finish - it literally glistens in sunlight. The wheel refinishing guy I had look at it noticed immediately. In shade you'd never know it had a diamond finish.

Obviously I'd like this diamond finish to be there after the refinishing process. The repair guy claimed they could do this - and quoted me $10 extra for the $135 repair estimate. But does this mean he will re-create the diamond finish, or simply take extra care to just refinish the parts of the wheel with curb rash?

I'd like the refinished wheel to match the others. If it's not going to I'd rather just leave it as it is.

Bob in NY,

Why don't you check with another Wheel Guy! Ask him those same questions and see what he says........He might even do a better job for less money.......you never know if you don't ask!

Good question. I did. After I went to this place I visited another. He quoted me $20 more. And after I brought up the diamond finish issue, he seemed out of his league and referred me to the previous place because they were the best in town.

Bob in NY,

On the internet, I entered autorimshop.com/Jaguar and this really nice site came up with your wheel, completely redone and looking great for $124.99.

They are in Farmingdale, New York! Why not check them out and call them with your Wheel questions.......this beats the $135.00 quote you got from the local Wheel Guy.

Bob, just trying to help!

If it is close to you, contact Speedy Brother's Tire & Auto, 1762 Richmond Terrace, Staten Island, NY 10310, (718) 273-0800,
www.brotherstireshop.com

They have a provider for wheel refinishing who did an excellent job with my xk8's 18 inch wheels. Very fair price and they look as good as new.

In the same neighborhood, G & G Autobody has someone that they refer to who also does excellent work. Call them and they will give you the contact information.
G & G Custom Auto Body, 113 Ferry St, Staten Island, NY 10302Phone: (718) 447-9459, nice people.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, but the car is kept at my FL residence, which is where I am at the moment.

I visited autorimshop.com, entered Aris in the search box, and it returned 4 Aris wheels, each over $300. Here.

The $135 price seems to be the going price here in Fl. I live in Panama City and that's the price the only guy in town quoted. About the Diamond finish, I'm at a loss, can't help, but for 20 bucks if he can do the job, I'd go for it, but get a written guarantee...but that last piece of advice here in Fl., is a laugh.

Thanks Chuck. Good advice - I'll probably go for it.
