Question Wheel Refurbishing

The front wheels on my 2005 XK8 have been diagnosed as being out of round by the shop that did the wheel balancing. Is it possible to repair this and, if so, by whom? Thanks!

It depends upon how badly they are out-of-round. Most cities have mobile wheel restorers who can come to you and potentially repair your wheels right there in your driveway. Google "mobile automotive wheel repair" along with your city name, see what turns up, and make some phone calls....

Some wheel repair shops will turn the wheel on a lathe to true it up. Sorry that I can't recommend someone, but I'm the other side of the "pond".

There is a shop here in Cincinnati that repairs wheels and also does powder coating. I curbed my right side, DOH!!!, and may take the job to them. The Wheel Doctor.
www.wheeldoctorohio.com They have done some motorcycle wheels for my and my Acura wheels. I don't know about shipping if your not close enough. TM

How close are you to Staten Island NYC? If you can get them to my friend's shop, we can send them out to a repair service. Usually runs about $115.00 USD for standard alloys completely refinished to spec. The company does nice work usually with 24hr turnaround.

Previous owner on my car probably hit a pothole or curb. If your wheel is out of round ("radial") then I don't have a suggest. Sorry. Mine was lateral runout ("side to side"). Local shop repaired perfectly for 175. Good luck.

Update: I DID take my wheels to the Wheel Doctor and looks great. It's been a while but lost track of this thread. TM

Are these the factory-original wheels? If they are OEM-quality wheels, and with no significant visible damage, it seems unlikely that they are truly out of round to any significant extent. I'd at least get another opinion.

I doubt that most out-of-round conditions are, as a practical matter, repairable.

^^ Are you asking me about my wife's 2006 XK8 Victory Edition? We still own it. The car has not been her daily driver since late October 2018, she prefers to drive her Lexus RX350, she has not driven her XK8 in nearly two years, yet she wants to keep it as a work of art. I just shake my head, keep it well-maintained, take it out regularly to give it the exercise it needs, and wait for the day when she finally comes to the conclusion that it is time to downsize our fleet....
