Default Wheel spacers and lowering springs

I am installing Brembo brakes from the XKR on my XK8. I got them for a great price and love the looks of them. Definitely not doing it for better braking. I have the 18" double five wheels and now realize that they won't work with the Brembos. I need spacers to make this setup work. I was also considering installing lowering springs ( putting in new shocks so I might as well do the springs at the same time) on the rear only, because I don't like the wheel gap back there.

My question is, I have read that installing wheel spacers (20mm) will lower the car. Does anyone have any experience with this? How much would it lower the car. I'm not sure if I would need the lowering springs if the spacers lowered it enough for my tastes.

I don't think that the spacers will provide clearance for the Brembos (others may be able to confirm this).

In any case, Spacers that move the wheels outward will not change the Ride Height.

The minimum adapter width you can go is 1 1/4" (about 32mm).

20mm and you have to do something about shortening the studs (and 20mm is really too thick for a spacer using the stock studs, even with the longest lug nuts).

Spacing the track out will slightly lower the car (due to the longer lever arm) but it won't be much (not more than 1/2 inch).

Do the brembo's faces hit the backside web of the wheels?

I recalled seeing a couple of post saying that adaptors were needed with 18" double fives and Brembos. I would be using H&R adaptors. I haven't installed yet, just trying to get all the parts in before starting the work.

With 20mm adapters, you'd need to cut 1/2 inch off the studs, I would be hesitant to do this and I have backup pairs of hub assemblies I paid less than $50 for.

On a Chevy, where you can knock the studs out and install new studs in minutes, it would be no big issue, but it is a huge deal on a jag.

If you need adapters, I would go 32mm or none.

I didn't realize the studs would have to be cut with the H&R adapters. I don't want to do that. May need to go with the 32mm. It also looks like I would need to get the lowering springs since the stretched track wouldn't drop it much.

There is no need to cut the studs, the OEM-wheels have recess-holes on the back side.

Can you share some of the details for the brake lines if you bought them separately? Thanks.

Perhaps I've got things wrong, but weren't later springs on the X100 shorter than earlier models? Is so can't you just use later springs to lower a 2000?

I had stainless steel brake lines on mine but won't be going down that router again after 2 of them became frayed (goodrich) in 3yrs

The brakes should be coming with brake lines attached. I should get them today. If they are not usable, I'll have to look into the Goodrich lines.

I thought there were no changes throughout the series. I'm probably wrong. Need to check into that.

You had 2 Goodrich brake lines go bad!! Not good news.

Hi,
hope this will help : XKR 18" ALLOYS WITH BREMBO CALIPERS - Page 1 - Jaguar - PistonHeads
They don't talk about shortening studs. OEM studs should get inside recess-holes of the wheels

And
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ersion-111642/
You will need to tap front holes and fit specific bolts (HXD6064EA if remember well).
For brake lines, rear need banjos.

Currently doing the same mod. I've found 20" Detroit wheels but love my 18" double five ones due to their design and comfort. So hesitating a lot.
I would proceed until I receive a new BBS wheel valve (I have everything but one of these f.....g valve has broken last day, grrr).

I would be interested on the spacer length you'll use : to keep XKR design fluid, I think the thinner spacers the best

Calipers showed up today. They look good with lines attached. I'll be stripping and painting them. Pads have a lot of meat on them but I have some new ceramic pads that I'll use.

JeJe, I also really do like the double fives. I'm going with the 20mm adapters and I'll let you know how it works.

johns55,

Those calipers will not work. They're from an StypeR/X350 XJR and have different bolt spacing.

All of the Calipers sold on Ebay are for the later cars. I check a lot. Some ads say they fit "03-06" XKR/XK8, but those can't also fit an '03-06 XJR.

Only the '02 and earlier XJR calipers fit.

I Checked all of my Jag wheels and this is correct. They have all have 5 individual pads and the studs will go between them.

And for some reason, I thought it was 03 and earlier. Bad mistake.

2006 and older XKR (x100) and 2003 and older XJR (x308) Brembos will fit.

Try this site : https://astonmartinbits.com/models/1-DB7/parts/4202

DB7, XJS and XK8 are, by some points, similar.
