At the other side there is a groove machined out where the plastic guide centers in, and there the guide broke. I was lucky to do other work on the engine that I noticed it; there was no noise as the plastic guide kept it all together.

Also I would have never thought something like this would be possible with a stock guide, and am sure this is very very unusual, which is why I ever felt the urge to post this.

But when I saw that on the guide you showed a good chunk was machined off, I started to wonder that it could be risky to go this way, and then the original 4.0 guides might not be so bad, so at least something to consider.

 

Just wondering if these parts are included with your kit, for $675.00?

 

I ordered my parts from Partsgeek.com they are not the kit, but I worked with my mechanic and he provided me a list of what I needed that he did not have. Hope this helps.

Most dealerships will not sell their employees parts for that price. Tousley's online, and their service level is great.

Rock Auto sells Fell Pro valve cover gasket kits at very, very low prices. The part # for my 99 XK8 is # VS50724R. Pre-1999 use a different gasket set.
