Default Whistling sound from evap solenoid?

Replaced the solenoid valve that takes the fuel tank gas pressure and returns out to the engine (it sits behind the driver side wheel well (USA spec).

Now after 15 minutes or so of driving I hear this loud whistling sound coming from the same area. It temporarily goes away if rev the engine. But, comes back almost immediately.

Anyone here experience this? And what did you have to do to fix it?

Thx

my 03 made noise from there time to time, specially if it was hot outside. There was a TSB about that unit up there making noise. I think the fix was wrapping it with some sound deadening material.

Have you checked your fuel trims? Sounds like an air leak to me.

The more common noise is a ticking sound at idle. Comes and goes, computer controlled.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Cyber, I have what may be the same issue in my '04 (see below...go silver crew). I get a whistling or humming noise if I start the car up and let it idle for five minutes or so. Lasts for a few minutes and then goes away. Haven't heard it while driving. I suspect it may be connected to the EVAP system since from time to time I get a 0455 code (EVAP system leak) that I am keeping an eye on. So I don't have a solution for you...but I think you are on the right track that it may be connected to that valve. Hopefully someone can assist.

I had to replace the Evap solenoid last year because it was Constantly clicking.

During the replacement and removing the Insulation I found the Solenoid totally rusted and somewhat ajar from the plastic body (from the moisture held in by the insulation bag).

The instructions included with the new part stated "do NOT install the insulation".
Seems the TSB about adding insulation caused more problems.

I installed an OEM part (not too expensive) and I haven't heard a sound from it.

Hope this helps,

Still have not pinned it down. However, I did top off the oil level and the sound has not returned! Maybe the oil filler cap was not seated correctly. But, I have not been on any trips more than 10 miles lately. So, we'll see.
