With my front suspension sagging lower than it should have, I decided to replace the front shocks and mounts on my 97 XK8 with 117000 miles.
Starting the teardown, I also found the upper control arm bushings to be worn out. In removing the Fulcrum Pin as it is called, I found out that on the end of the pin (bolt) there was a grease fitting on the end where the nut screws on to it.
If only I knew that fitting was there, perhaps the bushing centers would not have frozen to the Pin. To remove the pin, I had to destroy it off with a cut off wheel where it goes through the sub frame. As expected, the new Fulcrum Pins, $60 each, didn't come with the grease fitting in the end like the original factory fitment.
If only I knew it was there 70,000 miles ago, perhaps the bushing failure and seizing would not have occurred. Check out yours to see if they are there on your car if you still have the original pins.
By the way, with all the new parts installed, The front end sits at least 3 inches taller and the car rides beautifully.

 

Never heard or read about a grease zerk on the fulcrum bolt. Sounds odd to me.....

 

Replaced RH upper control arm last year. There is no grease fitting on the new one or the old one.

 

A whole 3 inches! That must have been some lowrider. Just curious, where did you get the new coil springs?

I really need to look again at my upper control arm bushings. They looked OK when I changed shocks, coils and upper mounts, but I still feel some looseness in the the front.

Don't remember any grease fitting on the bolt when I took it off on my '01. On the other hand, it came right out with no seizing. OK, maybe a light tap or two with the hammer.

 

My 97, built 10/96 did not have zerk fittings. I think someone added them.
