Default Whoomp there it is!

I knew something was brewing there and sure enough... pictures speak for themselves!
Tomorrow I will fabricate new overlapping metal and weld over the affected area.

Curious, is your car drivin in the winter?
The car lift looks like a great thing to have.

1. Car came from Florida, before that Ohio, not sure of the history, but previous owners name was Hispanic, therefore no conclusive history assumption can be made. The rest of the car is as hot as they get, yesterday, at the red light, I was hit on by 23 y/o looking chicks and reseeding hair line did not stop them!
From the outside, everything looked just fine, except for curios looking bulge in one area, it is Jaguar, everything is possible.

2. Yes, car lift, unlike most of our presidents and some marriages, is always a WIN! $1550 on eBay, delivered.

Were you changing your oil or was the Jaguar just marking her territory?

So the plate just pried off without cutting any welds or spot welds? Wow, not attached very well is it.

I used air chisel and it did split spot welds, between the layers, like butter. You have to be careful though, layers are thin and fragile from internal rust, so inner layer is very easy to penetrate. I would suggest lifting carpet on the other side as well, to treat rust from inside. Tomorrow I will have new plates made from 16 gage and will post some pictures of end result.

Again, the funny part is that nothing looked bad from the outside and then I discover this sandwich.

Are you going to cut out the old rusted material before weldingtthe patch in place. I replaced a section in an old Chevie Nova using material from the hood of another car. A little tacking and hammer bashing before the final weld got the job done.

It is dual layer, which made it rust on the first place. Jaguar has two 10mm anchor nuts welded in the floor, for some technological reason and that is why they needed to overlap floor board, with another, 16 gage metal flap.
I will replace the outer flap, cut rust through holes in a nice circular manner and weld around them from the inside. You will see when I post more pictures.
Sad part is that this metal, on metal sandwich had no rust proofing between the layers and was not sealed with silicone around, like zee Germans would do.
Anything more careless would have Made in Italy written on it.

You can hardly see it

It's true... not very often is underneath the car visible!

Hopefully no more leaks spring up.

Great pics. Found rust in the same spot on my car. But I'm gonna have to leave it to the professionals, don't have the equipment or the skills to fix it myself.

Mish
Looks good, I can imagine exposed steel sandwiched together wouldn't take too long to corrode. especially if it was ever driven on any winter roads.
Nice write up.

I found the same issue on my 1997, in the exact same spot. I recommend everyone take a look at these plates, which are located just behind the front wheels, inside of the front jacking points.

The original owner was in New Jersey...but for the last 11 years the car has been in the Southeast. Mine doesn't look too bad. I'll address it in the next few months, after I get some other priorities addressed.

I seem to remember from a conversation I had with XKRacer a little while back that these plates serve no purpose and were just attached during assembly of the cars to hang up the floorpans. The first you know about a problem is when you get wet carpets. It is not necessary, therefore, to replace the plates when the floor has been repaired.

Perhaps XKRacer will correct me if I have got this wrong!
