Question "Whoop" noise when downshifting

2006, XK8, 29K miles.

When getting on the freeway for example, car makes a "whooping" nosie when it down shifts, after stepping on the gas. No loss of power. Very strong pick up.

Seen several posts about adding this and draining that. Seen other posts indicating this is a normal tranny Jag sound, (my first Jag).

Don't care about the noise. Just need to know if this is serious tranny problem on the horizion.

Thanks for any advice.

Go Bolts!

ZF tech support told me (in March 2010 if I remember correctly) that the infamous squawk is simply extraneous noise with no damage being done as the clutch packs grab slightly during certain upshift cycles. I certainly hope this is true but have no evidence to confirm or deny. Our 2005 S-Type's ZF squawked intermittently during our hot summers, but quit doing so in early autumn 2011 as the weather cooled. No squawking since, now at 73,250 miles on the factory fill of Lifeguard 6 ATF....
