The windows need to bere-indexed. Try programming it yourself. Raise windows all the way holding switch down for at least 5 seconds after it has reached the top. Same for bottom, lower all the way and hold the switchdown for an additional 5-10 sec.gordo

Even then, that won't always fix the problem.
A lot of times my coupe will do that, I'll re-index them, and the next time I open the door, the window won't go back up.
Other times, the window won't go down, and the entire door will go dead, but then start working in about 20 minutes.

If power is lost for 20 minutes then you are holding the switch too long in the up or down position.

You should also here a 'click' when the window has programmed successfully in each the up, and down location. Somewhere between 3-5 seconds is a good time frame to listen.

Yeah, but it will lose power while I'm not in my car.
I'll go out to get in it, and open the door, and nothing will work in the door.

My windows will drop everytime I actuate the door handles, inside or out, I can roll them all the way down by using the door handles. Will reprogramming correct this?

Thanks
Bill

As you open the door, the windows are meant to drop a few millimetres to clear the top sealing rubber. When you close the door, the window should raise again to lock into the seal.

The problem after loss of power or low battery is the window drops but doesn't go back up again automatically when the door is closed and has to be lifted with the switch. This is what reprogramming corrects.

As you know, my battery has been disconnected several times. This is not a factor with the '95 and my XK didn't come with any Jag Owner's guides.

Thanks a lot Graham, as usual, your guidance and comments are reassuring at the very least...

Now, if I can only find a key fob to play with...

Thanks,
Bill

I have the exact same problem in my XKR after having a flat battery. I just followed the instructions here and it seems to have fixed it. Thanks! : )

I have a question about my 97 xk8 convertible, when I open the door the window lowers a tad but when I shut the door it does not return closed? is this a programming issue? can I fix it myself?

thanks for the help
For those that have a Owner's Manual, This is covered in detail.

Of course, on some used XKs the Owner's Manual is missing.

No owners manual here! Don't need one! You guys are the best! Going through this car one system at a time has been a labor of love. Thanks for all time and know how.

If you change your mind ( ) you can download the VEHICLE DOCUMENT SET for your model from here:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...006-faq-67827/

All the Handbooks that would have been with 1996-2006 XK8/XKR's available for download as PDF's.

You can download the manual in sections from topix...and put them all together into one PDF to print it for your glovebox if you like Check out the FAQ in this subforum for the link to take you to it.

If the procedure above does not fix the problem, then you likely have a stuck/bad micro switch. Reverend Sam has a video on how to fix this problem. The micro switches are about $25 each.

Your kind offering of the Owners manuals reminded me of something. I was looking at Jaguar XK8's on YouTube and found a 40 minute copy of the VHS tape Jaguar included with all new 1996 (could have been 1997 not sure) new XK8 purchases. It was fun to watch, pretty much covered all the feature / functions described in the owners manual. It as also interesting to see the changes from what they describe to what I have on my 1998 for instance. Thought you might find it intersting.

Came to the rescue again, the drivers window would not return to the up position, followed the instructions from you guy's, and VIOLA! Fixed.

Thanks once again.

Okay, I have a variation on this problem. When I open the passenger door, the window
goes down and then immediately goes back up! It doesn't wait for the door to be closed.
So I'm concerned it's not sealing as well as it should. Can I correct this? I've tried
re=programming the window several times. Thanks for any input!
