window problem
The driver side window of my 97 XK8 convertible doesn’t go up all the way. I goes down fine but only goes back up halfway. I helped it back up but it went up crooked. The passengers side window works fine and there seems to be no battery problems. How can I figure out what’s wrong and if I need to how can I open the door panel?

1) Do not force it. I once did = watched it shatter into about 10000000 pieces of glass
2) you do need to remove door card. It may take 20 min first time, but easy job. I can do it in 5 minutes now.
Most likely culprit is the adjustment screw 3/4 of the way up towards back of window.
Gosh there was just a post within last week or two with photo in one thread, instructions on alignment in follow up thread.
If you are lucky the author will read this and point you to it.
I bet you are in for some rain so time is of essence.
How to remove door card:
Lower window if you can.
unscrew screws in arm rest(pull out rubber lining see screw). Pry the vertical trim piece out, it is held with pine tree tension pin. Use a plain old flat blade screwdriver.
Unscrew the now exposed screw that holds window switch assembly. Remove window switch assembly disconnect wires.
See screw in door's Lower back corner in the rug like area. A few screws are underneath the speaker grill bottom of door. You do not need to pull grill now.
Don't forget screw behind door handle. You will need to pry the plastic piece that hides screw head. Probably hardest part of the job. Use a dental pick or tiny flat blade jewlers screwdriver to wedge out. Don't lose that plug.
Remove door handle plastic surround. Remove arm rest.
Now pull door card away from door mounts. Start at forward lower corner. Get fingers underneath pull backwards to release. Gentle but firm. Work your way up front side pulling to release.
Now work the bottom to the rear.
Once released tilt bottom of door card out. Lift and start to remove. Lower rear portion has a light. You need to disconnect the wire to it.
This lights electric connector is locked in place with silver metal wire fastener. Slip screwdriver under it and pull it back to release/ unlock connector. Be careful that silver wire can shoot out into nowhere land!
Door card is off. Don't worry about pulling back the plastic shearing underneath. It is not fragile or way too critical. I used 3M tac spray to reattach it.
NOTE: NEVER Ever put your hands inside without disconnecting battery . Unexpected window movement has enough power to slice off fingers.
You probably snapped one or two pine tree connectors. Cheap enough to replace at Jaguar dealer (a rarity), but generic ones are easy to fit. Just trim diameter of head, cut to lengths with scissor.
Don't think missed anything. Let us know how you do.
