Windows and door lock
Hey.. new problem, seems like one a month..
So, unlocked the car to open the bonnet (to fix something else.. thats done..) but the passenger window didnt automatically go down to clear the trim in order to open smoothly. Then, it appears the passenger window actually will not go down at all with the use of either button. Plus the door is very reluctant to unlock. There is no window lowering when i use the external handle (expected as i disconnected the battery in order to do a hard reset, normally happens when the window limits arent set..)
Have also pulled fuses and checked, no fuse issue... this happened a while ago before.. but sorted itself out evidently only for a while.. so.. thoughts? 1999 xkr..

battery is in good condition, trickle charge maintained.. i know the issues with batteries so try and avoid the simple issue... im thinking micro switches? but im stumped as to why the window just wont work at all.. suddenly...
Ignition on. Open passenger door. Does dashboard say passenger door open? If yes, switch in door latch is ok. As I recall 1997 - 1999 all operated puddle light, window drop, door open warning message off this switch. For sure it does on 1997 and 98s.

ok, so with door open the dash didnt show the message.. so i have now taken the latch mechanism out and looking at what the problem can be.... any tips would be great..
surprised it affects the window button though.. lets see...

Dont shoot me, was just getting troubleshoot started. You just jumped right in there, good for you.
Verify power to door. Some have found bad connection at doors input connection.
If you have latch out, please check for 12volts at connector. Check for 12v at window button connector (ignition switched). 12 volts at lock switch (battery).

Just thought of something. If you have latch out, the connector to its micro switch is free. This micro switch is normally open or closed ( I forget, info available here with search). Ok don't roll your eyes, as I type I realize it's got to be normally open / door closed, or the puddle lights would have lit the moment you unplugged it.
If you have 12v to the door, short across the connector. It'll look like a properly working closed door switch.
Let us know.

so, door latch mechanism is off.. i had to reconnect the battery to get the drivers window up, thought id check if the passanger one worked, an it did so all points to the latch mechanism.. will investigate with volt meter...
Hey, if you need a way to hold the glass up as you work on it, just grab one of those Irwin Tools Quick grip clamps you probably have laying around for woodworking. It hardly takes any pressure to prevent the glass from slipping down. Works great.
