Default Windshield Sensors

OK, I've searched the forum and my manuals and am confused. I have two sensors, one on the back of the mirror and one on the windshield, what is the second sensor on my windshield under the rain sensor for or if that's the headlight sensor then what is the sensor on the back of the mirror for, please see the attached file...any ideas?

if that mirror ever starts coming off the window I can tell you how to fix the cheap way.
There is a metal ring around the rain sensor that the mirror assembly snaps on and that black tint you see all around it, as I recall when it gets old part of it starts pulling away from the glass. I just took all of mine off during my repair, not sure of it's purpose.
Well that metal ring is attached to the window which you can not buy like the old day cars where you would just glue on a new one. You have to buy the WHOLE WINDSHIELD that it comes with it mounted THEN you just snap on your mirror. F that, I gently ground/sanded off the black bonding substance that was used orig, cleaned all my surfaces up and used normal glue for mirrors and remounted and it is still on to this day.

OK, I think I've figured it out, at least for my 03...
The sensor on the windshield I asked about in my first post is for the headlights, the sensor on the back of the mirror is for the mirror auto dim and the sensor on the front of the mirror is for dimming when headlights are behind you.

So, I want to replace my mirror with one that has a LCD screen for the reverse camera and did not want to lose my auto headlight's. Looks like I'm good to go. Now just need to figure out how to attach an aftermarket mirror to the stock mount so I can keep my rain sensing wipers also.

The attachment point is round with an open end sorta like a horseshoe but rounded if it is like my 03 which you mirror is like mine. Good luck getting a aftermarket one to fit.

Post 19 is the back of your mirror when off. See the round black metal bracket, THAT stays on the windshield when you take the mirror off. The rain sensor stays on the window also and sits in the middle of that. I took my metal ring off and cleaned off the surfaces for remount. This all only if your mirror is falling off. You DON'T want to touch the rain sensor, knocking it off at all.
