I have attached a couple of pictures to help you trouble shoot the washer. First make sure you have fliud. I know dumb start but you never know. Now check fuse #7 a 30 amp fuse in the engine compartment fuse box. Put in a new one even if it looks ok. Does it work? If know swap the pump relay with any relay that is the same. Compare diagrams on side of relay and the color. Does it work now? If know then remove the left wheel arch liner and have someone operate the stalk. Can you feel the motor running. If YES a line is plugged if NO then the pump is bad. Good luck and let us know what you find.

I realized I forgot a step in the troubleshooting. Once you swap out the relay have someone actuate the stalk. Can you feel the relay click in. If YES continue on if NO then remove the steering column covers and check the multi-function stalk for a broken connection.

My washer to the windshield is also inoperative, and headlight washer does spray once and a while it appears to be "sticky" though.

I can hear the motor running when the washer stalk is activated. So my issue must be plugged lines.

Are they a straightforward replacement , or are their special incantations that must be observed ???

DUCKBILLS!

The most regular cause of washer failure is the three neoprene duckbills are blocked.

I used to clear mine on the XK8 with compressed air from one of the cans sold for cleaning keyboards.

its been over 2 months, so I guess I can drop drinking more coffee , it's not giving me any more courage.

Car is an '02 XKR.

the washer motor does run, but the fluid is running out under the engine, looks like it's coming out about half way between the reservoir and the windshield . Maybe a break in the line ? Fluid only leaks out when the motor is running, so I'm guessing there's no fault in the tank or the motor connections at the tank.

any known problem connections between the washer and the rear of the engine compartment ?

Is the washer plumbing easy to follow from under the car ?

Thanks, as always, very grateful for the combined knowledge represented here.

The diagram from the Parts Catalogue is the clearest:

Windshield washer doesn't work-washers.jpg

The black plastic cowl has to be removed for access to the tubes.

The feed from the reservoir (item 2) splits at a Tee (item 3) to left and right washer nozzles. Several possibilities for a disconnection, broken connector or split tube. Nothing complicated or expensive to fix.

Finally found a day when the mercury wasn't over 90 by 10 AM and fixed the feed tube under the cowl. Never was able to get the wiper assembly off. The nut came off easily enough, but the washer under it seemed to be welded to the shaft and I never could get it unstuck and rotated up and off. Ended up just removing the plastic screws and pried the plastic cover up an inch in the middle. Enough to see the hose had come off the passenger side washer hose. The side ears on the T-filling broke without much input from me,

so I replaced it with a brass T that I had laying around. So far so good.

For future reference, any tricks to getting the wiper assembly to come off cleanly ???

thanks to everyone who responded.

I had to do a similar repair to my wife's previous 2004 Lexus RX330 SUV years ago. One of the plastic T-fittings for the windshield washer fluid hoses deteriorated and broke behind and underneath the vehicle's front grill. I found it by tracing the washer fluid leak underneath the vehicle, removed the broken T-fitting, took it to the hardware store and found a same-sized brass T-fitting for maybe $2.00. Never had a problem with it again....

Ditto. I was not able to find anything comparable at the local parts stores.

I would check with some plumbing supply stores. Some dishwashers use similar tubing as their water supply lines....

I had an issue with mine. The PO must have used some cheap washer fluid that created some scum in the tank. This plugged the check valves prior to the duck bill nozzles. I purchased new parts including checks replacing it all. I needed a puller tp remove the wiper arms to gain access to the hoses under the cowling. Flushed the tank and lines with fresh fluid. Works perfectly now.

Hi Vern,
Many thanks. I'll take a look next week once a few body related jobs out of the way.
Cheers, Richard.

Looking for help removing windshield washer pump.
Problem: washing liquid is not sprayed on windshield.
Troubleshooting steps:
1. When button on stalk operated I can hear pump motor working.
2. Removed plastic wheel well inner guard; disconnected plastic tubing from pump outlet. Bleu compressed air into tubing. air comes out hissing out of windshield washer sprayer. That means no obstruction in washer lines.
3. Blue compressed air into the outlet of pump. bubbles come in the tank. No obstruction there.

My conclusion is that impeller of the pump is not well connected to motor shaft or damaged, I just think impeller loose on shaft.
So, the question is how to remove windshields washer from the reservoir? Anybody willing to share that detail from service manual?
I do not want to begin prying things off without knowing how they are put together.
Any help, is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,

Thanks everybody!
It turned out to be a dirty filter. The filter is integrated into pump/motor assembly' seal.
replaced the seal and everything is working like a charm!

Turned out to be a dead washer pump. Replaced with a new one and now spraying again.
