BTW, tapping wires is easy and reliable with these: Posi-Tap- No Crimp Tap

WhiteXKR,

Thanks for that info. It's also a more convenient location for dash mounted accessories than using the cigarette lighter harness.

Is there a 3-pin plug available from Jaguar or elsewhere to hook directly up to this aux connector?

The connector has standard .250" quick-connect blades...you do not really need to use a mating shell....just standard quick-connects from any auto supply store will do.

Gus,

A tidy soution but at high cost even by Jaguar standards.

How strange Jaguar should fit a power connector behind the glovebox and offer an additional glovebox outlet as an accessory.

SUCCESS! Thank you WhiteXKR and Reverend Sam. I was able to connect a female cigarette socket adapter into the wires you advised of and now have power for my new nav! I'll hopefully continue to have good luck finishing this project. I know I will be using the advice from this forum to make it happen!

Congratulations on getting it powered up. I bought a spare power source for the Magellen 5310 and tapped into the original GPS harness directly. I don't remember what the colors were, but I attached small electrical pins to the positive and neg from the GPS and pushed them into the corresponding positive (key on) and negative slots in the GPS harness, which allowed for no manipulation of existing wiring.

Default Ignition 12v?

I bought two generic accessory outlets with the intent of installing in the glove box and trunk. Does anyone know off hand (by either position or color) which prong is the ignition based 12volt and which is ground. I want to ensure that whatever I hook up can't drain the battery when the car is off. Thanks.

White with red tracer is ignition switched power, and black is ground. Brown with green tracer is always on battery.

I know this is old, but how do I remove the 97 glovebox to access the wireharness?

Default very helpful thread - thank you.

may provide a simpler approach by replacing the nav screen instead of matching rgb digital format required for original screen.

^This. I needed a switched live source to power a DAB radio receiver that fits perfectly into the top book storage bay in the glovebox. The aerial ran up the inside of the A pillar and I found the accessory power plug attached to a metal bar running across the top of the hole left after removing the glovebox assembly. 3 wire plug connector, 1 earth, 1 at 12v, and a red/white wire which has nothing. Went to local car shop and bought a £5 dioded relay to put in position 6 in the fuse box in the boot and the red/white wire in the connector is now a switched live.

I didn't bother doing anything more fancy than use a couple of crimped spade connectors to fit over the earth and switched spades in the factory connector to get my DAB radio power.

Perfect. Thanks for whoever wrote the thread highlighting the relay no. 6 in the boot fuse box and it's purpose. The most difficult thing was finding where the actual accessory power socket was above the glovebox, it's kind of not in line of sight but tucked up inside at the top front edge of the glovebox appature. Obvious when you see it, whilst lying on your back with your head in the footwell!
