Default Would an XJ8 make a good parts car?

I have a 97 XK8 tucked away for the winter with a probable bad a-drum. Here in the Twin Cities you can not find any XK8 parts cars. Yesterday for shirts and giggles I cruised Craigslist for XJ8s of similar years and found a few and they were reasonably priced (fixer uppers).

QUESTION: If I could pick up an 1997-2000 XJ8 for around $1k or less, would it be a good idea to have as a parts car? I have room to store it in an outbuilding on the farm north of the Cities.

When I was young and foolish in my RX7 phase, i had quite a few parts cars. Still have a barn full of parts and three bodies sitting around. Going to scrapyard next summer.

There are a lot of interchangeable parts, trans. included. You could always sell off some of the exclusive stuff to recover your cost.

That is what I was thinking.

Anybody else have any input on the topic?

That said, if you've got the space...

Agree Beep. I considered picking up an XJR that was for sale locally for $1500 obo a few months ago just for parts. Sounded like it had suffered a tensioner failure, but had good TB, tranny, superchargers, etc. Didn't pull the trigger because of space issues, but will probably look again once I shed an excess vehicle.

I am pulling the trigger on the 1999 XJ8. Got him down to $500. I am under the impression the timing chain broke and did some damage. Still, I should be able to sell enough XJ8 only parts and the tranny i need will be free.

Bad part is it must sit in my driveway in Minneapolis until i can get it up to the farm in spring.
