Im sure its been discussed before but, I have a stock radio cassette for my 1999 xk8 conv.Ive been told that you cannot replace the stereo as the airbag controls are built in to the unit,is this true?
I want to replace it as the unit has numerous problems,volume control wont work properly and CDs jump.any thoughts?
All I want is a stereo with a single CD player and an IPOD jack.

replaced mine with single din unit
i have a 99 xk8 with standard stereo system
think you can get the wiring diagram from the big information thread
i replaced the speakers as well as the stock ones are not that good
put crossovers in the armrest and woofers in the door and tweeters in the dash. Wiring is already ran. Replaced the ones in the back as well. There is a good video if you want to take the door panels off for the speakers. I may have done up a post on this cannot remember now. I had a spare armrest as i bought one that had a functioning coffee cup holder. And used the old one with a dremal to cut a face plate ( plastic same color ) there are a bunch of threads on this. although doing nothing with the faceplate is not bad as it still looks ok . You will see when you take the old radio out. My cd player in the trunk was toast and wanted the mp3 jack as the cassette to mp3 that is was using was old old school. Also wanted better sound ( that was the main reason )
