Smile XK8 2001 Headlight Washer Issues

This forum has been a godsend, it has helped me solve so many issues to avoid the high cost of visiting my local dealer. Local dealer informed me recently that they don't like to work on the older cars due to issues developing following a fix.

But, my issue about the headlight washers has been resolved by following a previous thread that suggested simply removing the # 7 fuse to shut down the headlight washer pump. I am elated that I don't have to pull the headlight to produce a fix for that problem. Headlight washers are not necessary here in the Tampa, FL area. Many thanks to this great forum and its savvy members.

Another thread advised me to shop SNG Barratt to find tubing to fit the windshield washer arms, which I did and that solved that problem too. Bought my new wiper blades on Amazon and saved some bucks.

Jag, just in case you find it's a fuse used by several things, you can put it back and pull the relay that only works the washer.

The headlight washer arms supposedly activate every 6th time you activate the windshield washer jets....

This week my car decided to unlearn that programming and is now operating the headlight washers on every press as long as the headlights are on.

Thus far, I have found no utility in operating them any of the time.

Before I rendered all of them inop, they only functioned to make the bonnet/hood wet every sixth time I wanted to clean the windshield.

+1 with Dale. Heck, I even managed to have my headlight washer squirt a passenger on the eye with roof down once. That was the end of using that feature, dont miss it at all.

Reminds me of the time when my dad’s X308 VDP has the windshield washer hose at the base of the windshield disconnected from the wiper arm. He used as a water gun to shoot one of my classmates who was walking on the sidewalk wit as he drove. It gave a whole new funny meaning to the term “drive by”.

LOL, that's great! I also can't figure what they were thinking with this feature. I'm not an engineer nor do I play one on TV, but looking at the angle of the headlight lens, proximity of the hood and squirter, well. Good thing the wipers are going at the same time to clean the windshield of excess headlight washer juice. I will disable mine.

Similar joke, if you go past a friends house a blow the horn; it's a drive by tooting.
If ya didn't mean to do it, it's an accidental tooting.
