Default XK8 2001 TPS problem

Help needed

I have a xk8 2001 convertible. There is lack of power in normal mode the car seems very flat on power but when i switch it into sports mode the power is back but not as it should be.

The throttle body has been refurbished by bba reman in surrey. They damaged my original unit in transit.

Ive done the hard reset severa times but no improvement. I also have a xk8 coupe 2002 and the difference in power in both cars is fernominal. The coupe is hell of a lot faster on acceleration

All help is appreciated.

Many thanx

Have you checked that the throttle cable is adjusted properly? You can use a suitable OBD reader to see if you are getting 100℅ open throttle when the pedal is all the way down. If not, it is an easy fix.

Welcome to the forum jagman1642,

Please use line breaks. A single block of text with no sentences is very hard to read.

The damage to the TB sounds as if it could explain the lack of power but an incorrectly adjusted throttle cable not allowing the throttle butterfly to fully open is often a cause of poor performance.

Any way to connect a code reader and look at the codes and the fuel trims?

I had a similar problem with another car a number of years ago. Everything ran "OK", but there was a general lack of power. The problem was a broken off catalytic converter that cause an increasing amount of exhaust back pressure. As there was less air out, there was less air in, so the air flow meters was measuring less, injectors injected less, and everything ran "just fine", except for a lack of power.

I have no idea if this is what is happening here, but any exhaust rattling at idle would be a strong indicator.

As others have suggested, the starting point would be to get the codes, if any.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

When you installed the TB did they give you instructions on how to properly set the TPS idle or did they make the adjustments when it was rebuilt?

For what it is worth when I adjust the TPS I adjusted and tightened it as the engine was running. When I did the adjustment mostly by ear and feel and it was within the idle specs. If you are satisfied you got it right than you should check your connections, read your codes and get readings on your O2.
