Any idea where I can get this part? I looked in a few places for exciter ring, and can't seem to find it.

Also, is it easy to replace?
Thx

Jagbits can find the part for my 2001 XK8. Here's the response I got 'I don’t show that your car has one'

The exciter ring is fairly easy to replace. Take the two screws out of the bottom of the steering column cover then remove the three screws from the underside of the top cover and remove it. The exciter ring just snaps on around the key barrel and the plug is just above it. Less than a 45 min job.
I bought my ring at the local Jaguar dealer, less than $30 and didn't have to pay shipping and wait for delivery. Good Luck.

I believe it is the item I've highlighted in green. Not numbered ( above #8).

Yup I finally found it hidden in the parts listings. It was listed with the security system parts. I sell it for $30.07. Thanks Richxk8 it was driving me crazy that I couldn't find it!

The part # is LJA 2668AB, COIL-K, $26.15 at the dealer.

Fairly easy to install, two screws in the bottom column cover and three in the top cover, from the under side, tilt wheel all the way up to do them. Ring just snaps on the key barrel and then route the wire back up to the plug. The item circled in the picture is what you are looking for.

If this works you best be looking at getting another key. Not a good idea to have just one.

Had the same problem, car would not always start, not even crank. Battery was relatively new and came back good when tested by the vendor. In desperation and after advice from forum members, I purchased a "quality" battery. Not had the problem since.

Perhaps if the exciter ring doesn't work it may be another option

As I posted in another thread, had no problems, after replacing the exciter ring, for two months, then it happened again. In all the post's everyone addresses loose wires, bad grounds, etc. but, no one can explain why after about ten minutes the car will fire right up and there may not be another occurrence for day's, week's or even months. As I have said, I have been dealing with this little quirk for five years (good thing I love the car), symptoms never change, just the randomness.

The battery is pretty new, so I don't think it's the reason.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

it might be the bore wash situation.... if you turn the engine on and off too fast without it heating up then the fuel washes the oil out of the boars that are under the spark plugs and it won't start because there's no P Diddy oil

your post might help someone with the same issue, but likely not the OP, member @jamgee as he posted his issue 10 years ago. If he’s still around I hope he’s resolved the problem. He hasn’t made a post in 5 years. Maybe too busy driving.
