Default XK8 AJ26 1st Gen Engine

Hi All, my 1997 XK8 engine locked up and I was told I need a top end. I'm looking for a rebuilt engine, as I was told that would most likely be the most efficient way to go. I'd appreciate any suggestions where to find one and what precautions I should take or be aware of.

Thank you,
Tomamon

Tomamon,

I've moved your question from Jaguar Forums Feedback & Suggestion Center to XK8/XKR forum. The Feedback & Suggestion Center is for posts about the forum and NOT for technical questions.

Sorry to hear about your engine. Members here with the same model will be able to advise.

Sorry 'bout that!

Several questions:

Did your shop say why the engine locked up?

How many miles on the engine?

Are you aware of the tensioner failure issue with these engines?

Where I am going is that the most common failure issue with these engines is a broken cam chain and can be cost effectively repaired with a head replacement.

Used engines can be found at car-parts.com or call a local wreaking yard and ask them to do a search. At nearly 20 years old many engines will be found with a lot of miles on them. My quick search turned up several with acceptable miles for about $2000.

I know folks are tired of me saying this but if you got money to spend do the Jaguar specialties GM LSx motor conversion.
